Information for Participants

Dear WALS 2026 participants,

As the conference approaches, we would like to share some information with you. Some of them might be obvious to some of you, and they will probably be useful to others. For this reason, this document is short and links to documents or videos for more detailed information.

For any urgent question not addressed in this document, please use this dedicated LINK (from 28 October to 1 November), and we will get back to you. Other questions will be answered directly in the Zoom chat during the conference.

1. Before the conference

We recommend all attendees, particularly presenters, to check their internet connection and to update Zoom before the conference. You might also want to set your name (if possible, in Latin alphabet). This name could also include your country.

Due to the time constraints resulting from the time zones, the discussion time has been prioritised for some sessions. Therefore, the following sessions will mostly consist of collaborative discussions and the attendees should watch the presentation in advance:

Keynote

The keynote Connected Outcomes: Understanding Factors that Push, Pull and Halt Professional Learning by John Paul Mynott is available on the conference website (LINK). The keynote session on Monday 2 November will be devoted to a discussion. You can ask your questions in advance (LINK) or during the discussion on Zoom.

Research lesson

One of the key moments of the WALS2026 conference is the research lesson. Please read the lesson plan before Monday 2 November and watch the lesson between Monday 2 (after the pre-lesson discussion) and Tuesday 3 (before the post-lesson discussion) so you can take part in the pre-lesson and post-lesson discussions. Translations of the original Japanese elements are available in Chinese (Mandarin), English, Kazakh, Khmer, Malay/Indonesian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Thai. Please use this LINK for all the instructions. Please make sure you read these instructions a few days before the conference.

Symposiums

The 50-minute symposium session will be almost totally devoted to comments by the discussant and discussion. Therefore, the audience should watch the presentation in advance. The presentations for each symposium are available via the conference detailed program, after signing in at the top of the page.
