Symposium (50 minutes)
A symposium is a thematically integrated set of 3 presentations followed by discussant comments and general discussion.
Symposia will consist of 3 pre-recorded video presentations (maximum length of 15 minutes each) to be uploaded by 15 September (instructions will be sent to the symposium chair) and are available to conference participants from 15 October. Live session will include 5-minute summary of each paper; 15-minute comments by the discussant; 20 minutes Q & A with attendees.
Paper Session (50 minutes in total)
A paper reports on any aspect of research related lesson/learning study. Papers will be grouped into thematically-organized sessions by the conference organizers. Each paper session will include 3 papers with 10 minutes presentation and 5 minutes discussion for each paper. Some paper sessions will be organized in other languages than English, this will be specified in the detailed program.
Poster Session (50 minutes)
Poster pdfs have to be submitted by 15 September (instructions will be sent to the posters’ authors) and will be grouped into thematically-organized sessions by the conference organizers. Poster authors will be available for interaction with attendees during designated poster session times.
Teacher Talk Session (50 minutes in total)
Teacher talks allow lesson study/learning study practitioners to report their experiences in a way that is useful to other educators–for example, using classroom artifacts, student work, video, lesson study reports, etc. Talks will be grouped into thematically-organized sessions by the conference organizers. Each talk will be 10 minutes long, with the remaining time for attendee-presenter discussion. Teacher talk presenters are encouraged to make their talks interactive–e.g., discussion of artifacts, student work, etc.
Some teacher talk sessions will be organized in other languages than English. This will be specified in the detailed program.
Interactive Workshop (50 minutes in total)
In an interactive workshop, audience members have an active role for at least ⅔ of the session time. An interactive workshop focuses on practice, active experience, or participatory creation.
Some interactive workshops will be organized in other languages than English. This will be specified in the detailed program.
Topic-Based Discussion Cafe (25 minutes)
Bring your own coffee (or tea!) to discuss artifacts, research, or topics to be discussed. The topic may be broad (e.g., what supports sustained lesson study?) or more constrained (e.g., what post-lesson discussion format do you use and why?).
