Conference dinner
The conference dinner is a true highlight in the social programme of WALS 2019 and provides an opportunity for all participants to relax and enjoy meeting each other outside the regular programme.
The conference dinner will be hosted at the wonderful Tolhuistuin. The Tolhuistuin is housed in a number of a former business premises of Royal / Shell Laboratory Amsterdam; characteristic buildings designed by architect Staal. Heart of the Tolhuistuin is the Garden, an oasis of peace in the middle of the city.
The Tolhuistuin derives its name from this pristine, historic park with an old grand plane tree in the middle. The garden used to be the garden of the adjacent Tolhuis. This Tolhuistuin grew in the late 19th century into a pleasure garden for the well-to-do citizenry in Amsterdam, where music performances regularly took place.
Since 2009, with the departure of Shell, the Garden has been reopened to the public for festivals, concerts, workshops, theatre performances, weddings, get-togethers and presentations. The old trees, winding paths, lawns and the Garden House together make this location a fantastic and must-visit place in Amsterdam.
The menu of the conference dinner is based on the sharing-dinner-concept, consisting of several courses of small dishes from all corners of the world that invite to share. You are invited to make a wonderful culinary voyage of discovery.
